Welcome to my Work In Progress Blog! This is where you get the scoop on my next book. More specifically, I will take you behind the scenes as I am drafting it. The following blog posts are excerpts from my writing journal. Be advised, they may contain swear bombs, grammatical inconsistencies, and heavy doses of sarcasm.
Just hit my first 10,000 words on Book 4, and I’m about three-quarters of the way through Chapter 3. I wrapped up before a pivotal moment today, a moment where Lily is about to do something impulsive and kind of crazy, but I think I’ve built up enough tension in the scene for it to […]
Finally finished Chapter 2. I was blocked for days. Days, damn it! Usually when I’m struggling, it’s because I’m either starting a new chapter and didn’t give myself an easy hook into it from the chapter that came before, or because I’m overwhelmed by all the things I want to accomplish in the new chapter. […]
I’m a little over halfway through Chapter 1, and I know exactly how to finish it out, so that’s good. The rest of the book is kinda hazy, though, ‘cause as far as writers go, I’m a total pantser. (Look up pantsers vs. plotters. It’s a thing, I promise you.) For anyone curious about how […]
Today marked the first day of drafting for the next book, and I’m so excited to be starting these blog posts all over with a new title header. Book 4 in the Browning Series will be called Lily Darling.
With editing done and the manuscript ready for formatting, I’m now shifting gears to cover art. Honestly, this is producing some anxiety for me because I know I’m going to be picky as hell about how PJ looks on the cover. But, damn it, how can I not put this chick on the cover? She’s […]
Copy edit back, and PJ has been KT approved!! Two months of nose-to-the-grindstone revisions have resulted in a lot less work post-edit. I’m so stoked right now. I think I can tackle these last few revisions in less than a week! At this rate, I’m very confident I will make my December release date […]
So, with KT working her editing magic, my book baby is out of my hands for a couple of weeks. I know I should probably be using the downtime to do something productive like come up with a design concept for the cover. But screw it, I’ve earned a break. I’m about to drop […]
There’s only so many times you can read and revise your own manuscript before you just gotta call it and hand it over to the professionals. After two months and fours sweeps through this one, I’m calling it. Pretty Jane is going to the pros at thebluegarret.com for copy editing and proofreading on September 3. […]
Reducing a one hundred-thousand-word novel down to a couple hundred-word synopsis that’s catchy and makes people want to ditch laundry duty and dive into some romance… is a skill I have not yet mastered. The book blurb kicked my ass today.
Haven’t worn any makeup for a couple of weeks. Lotion and lip balm. That’s it. Maybe spending the better part of a year writing a novel about a girl obsessed with makeup has affected my psyche. Nah, I just can’t be bothered right now. I’m editing.
