Aw, feeling the flow now. Chapter 34 done. Lots of action going on in Eli’s recording studio for this one. Which was great fun to write. I slipped in some sexy shenanigans as Eli gives Lily a private tour of the facilities, and I worked in a big musical number. For some reason, all my books seem to have ‘em. Probably on account of all the freaking pop-tunes I listen to before I dive into the writing. And with this book featuring multiple musician characters, I knew the play list was gonna be crazy long.
I was also able to slip in a Kathleen Turner Romancing the Stone nod which made me smile. Actually, this whole flippin’ chapter made me smile. Which is good. I think it’s a smart idea in storytelling to anchor some of the heavier moments with more light-hearted bits. Not total fluff, of course, because I’m always planting details for future twists and turns in the plot, but yeah, there is a heavy dose of feel good in this one. It gave me the same sense of joy that my favorite scene in Browning’s Crossing did (that bit with Kory, Gray, and the gang having their dance party in the woods under the Christmas lights. AKA: The first kiss chapter.)
Next couple chapters in LD are gonna be rough though. I’m finally getting to the moment where Lily and Dani have their big heart-to-heart, and… yeah there’s going to be a lot of tears for that one. Probably my own.
Note to self: rent Romancing the Stone. Haven’t seen it in ages. And I’m a romance writer now, so maybe I’ll really connect with Turner’s character. I think I remember her blubbering over some scene she wrote in one of her novels in that movie. That’s totally gonna be me after the Dani/Lily talk.
Another note to self: Actually, I should screen RTS again, take hella notes while scarfing down a bowl of Pralines and Cream, then do a Binge-worthy flicks newsletter on it for my subscribers. (This is why I journal people! Idea Generation!)
